Families of a deceased waited nearly two hours in rain for a hospital corpse vehicle at Damoh District Hospital, eventually using a private auto to transport the body to the PM House, prompting an internal probe.

Damoh, Madhya Pradesh – On a rainy evening, relatives of a deceased patient arrived at Damoh District Hospital expecting a designated corpse‑transport vehicle. The vehicle failed to arrive, leaving the mourners waiting for close to two hours under wet conditions.

Facing mounting distress and the need to move the body promptly, the family hired a private auto‑rickshaw to convey the corpse to the local PM House, a facility where the body was to be handed over for further arrangements.

Hospital officials acknowledged the lapse, stating that an internal inquiry would be launched to identify the cause of the delay and to take disciplinary action against those responsible for the failure to provide timely transport services.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges in the logistical support offered by public hospitals in smaller districts, especially during adverse weather conditions, and underscores the need for reliable emergency services.
