A Damoh district court sentenced Manjur Alam to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for defrauding a victim of Rs 42.46 lakh through an online trading scheme.
Damoh district court handed down a seven‑year rigorous imprisonment term to Manjur Alam after finding him guilty of a large‑scale online trading fraud. The court recorded that Alam had duped a victim of Rs 42,46,550 by promising unusually high returns on alleged trading activities.
According to the prosecution, Alam approached the complainant, assured that the investment would generate substantial profit, and persuaded the victim to deposit the sum in a bank account under his control. The money was never invested; instead, it was siphoned off, leaving the victim with a total loss of over forty‑two lakh rupees.
The judge, while delivering the verdict, emphasized the seriousness of cyber‑enabled financial crimes and the need for deterrence. Alam was ordered to serve the full term of seven years in a rigorous prison, and the court directed that the recovered amount, if any, be returned to the aggrieved party.
