The India Meteorological Department reported that Cyclone Murasu has formed and is expected to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an update confirming the formation of a new cyclonic system named Murasu.
IMD’s bulletin classifies the system as a cyclonic storm and projects that it will intensify further, reaching the severe cyclonic storm category within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Meteorologists highlighted that the storm’s strengthening is driven by favorable sea‑surface temperatures and low vertical wind shear, conditions that support rapid development.
Coastal authorities have been advised to monitor the system closely and prepare for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible storm surges that could affect vulnerable shoreline communities.
The department will continue to issue regular advisories as the situation evolves.
