The weather system Murasu has weakened into a depression, while intense rainfall continues across the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the low‑pressure system named Murasu, which earlier posed a cyclonic threat, has now weakened to a depression as wind speeds dropped below cyclonic thresholds. The system is moving slowly along the Bay of Bengal, maintaining a broad area of cloud cover over the eastern coastline.
Heavy rain bands associated with the depression have intensified over the coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari, delivering localized accumulations of 80‑120 mm in the past 24 hours. Flood‑prone low‑lying areas and river basins are experiencing rising water levels, prompting local authorities to issue advisories for residents in vulnerable villages.
Meteorologists warn that the depression will persist over the region for the next 48 hours, with the possibility of further rainfall spikes. Disaster management teams have been placed on standby, and officials have urged people to avoid non‑essential travel, secure property, and stay updated through official channels.
