A low‑pressure system named Cyclone Murasu has organized over the Bay of Bengal, but meteorologists say it is unlikely to cause significant damage in India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) identified a cyclonic disturbance over the Bay of Bengal on Monday, assigning it the name Murasu. Satellite imagery showed the system gaining a well‑defined circulation and moderate convection, meeting the criteria for a cyclonic storm.

Forecasters expect the storm to move north‑westward, staying mostly over water. While the system may bring increased cloud cover and scattered showers to coastal districts, the IMD has warned that winds and rainfall are unlikely to reach severe levels.

State disaster management agencies have been placed on alert, but no evacuation orders have been issued. Residents in vulnerable coastal areas have been advised to stay informed through official channels.

The IMD will continue to monitor Cyclone Murasu and issue updates should its intensity or track change, emphasizing that the current outlook points to minimal impact on the Indian mainland.
