The Indian Meteorological Department warns that the lingering effects of Cyclone Arnab could trigger heavy rainfall across northern West Bengal in the coming days.
The remnants of Cyclone Arnab, which made landfall on the eastern coast earlier this week, are now drifting northward away from the Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists say the system has weakened but continues to carry substantial moisture.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning that northern West Bengal, including districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar, can expect heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. The forecast calls for intermittent downpours that may intensify in the early morning.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert for possible waterlogging and landslides, especially in hilly and low‑lying areas. Local administration is on standby to provide relief and has activated emergency response teams.
Precautionary measures such as clearing drainage channels and securing loose objects have been recommended, while schools and transport services may be disrupted if conditions worsen.
