Cyclone Arnab has caused extensive damage to crops in Odisha's Gajapati district, leaving farmers grappling with significant losses.
Cyclone Arnab struck Odisha’s Gajapati district in the early hours of Sunday, bringing torrential rains and gale‑force winds that flattened fields across the region.
Local agricultural officials reported that a large portion of paddy, maize and banana plantations were uprooted or severely damaged, with estimates of loss reaching several thousand hectares.
Farmers in the district are now scrambling to assess the damage and seek relief assistance. The state government has announced an emergency fund to help affected farmers recover and replant.
Experts warn that the cyclone’s impact could delay the harvest season and affect market prices for staple crops in the state.
The Odisha Agriculture Department has urged farmers to report losses promptly so that compensation can be processed without delay.
