During the wedding season, cyber fraudsters in Rajasthan are circulating malicious APK files and phishing links disguised as wedding cards, venue details or pre‑wedding videos, prompting police to issue a warning.

Police cyber units in Rajasthan have identified a new scam that leverages the high demand for wedding invitations, venue confirmations and pre‑wedding video links. Victims receive messages that appear to contain a wedding card, a hotel booking confirmation or a short video clip, but the attached file is an Android application (APK) or a URL that leads to a phishing site.

The malicious APK, when installed, can harvest personal data and gain control over the victim's mobile device, while the phishing URLs mimic legitimate payment portals to capture banking credentials. Once the fraudsters obtain the credentials, they transfer funds from the victim's bank account to accounts under their control.

The cyber crime cell of the Rajasthan Police has issued an advisory urging citizens not to download unknown applications or click on suspicious links received in such wedding‑related messages. The advisory also recommends verifying the sender's identity through a direct phone call and reporting any suspicious communication to the nearest police station.

Authorities stress that legitimate wedding vendors and venues typically share information through official channels and will never ask recipients to install software or provide banking details via unsolicited messages. The police continue to monitor the situation and are working to trace the perpetrators behind the scheme.
