The central government’s cyber crime department issued an alert urging citizens not to click on fraudulent “free gift card” links or share bank details during the festive period.

The cyber crime department of the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a cyber alert urging citizens to remain vigilant during the upcoming festival season.

The alert points to a rise in phishing messages that claim to offer “free gift cards” and contain counterfeit links designed to harvest personal and banking information.

Authorities advise the public not to click on such links, not to share bank account numbers, OTPs or any financial details, and to verify the authenticity of any such offers before responding.

The department also urges anyone who receives suspicious messages to report them immediately to the appropriate cyber crime cell.

Officials note that online fraud typically spikes during festive periods and stress that continued caution can help prevent financial loss.
