Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo met with UNDP officials to assess the proposed SDG-linked budgeting framework for Jammu & Kashmir, aiming to align state finances with sustainable development goals.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo visited the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Jammu & Kashmir to review the organization’s proposed strategy for linking state budgeting to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The meeting, attended by senior UNDP officials and state finance officers, focused on how the new framework could guide fiscal planning and resource allocation across sectors.
The discussion highlighted the importance of integrating SDG indicators into budgetary processes, ensuring that financial decisions support long‑term development priorities such as poverty reduction, quality education, and climate resilience. Both parties agreed that a transparent, data‑driven approach would enhance accountability and improve the effectiveness of public spending.
Atal Dulloo emphasized the need for a phased implementation plan, with clear milestones and monitoring mechanisms. He also urged the state to collaborate with local stakeholders to tailor the SDG targets to Jammu & Kashmir’s unique socio‑economic context.
Following the review, the UNDP and state government will jointly develop a detailed roadmap outlining timelines, resource requirements, and performance metrics to operationalize the SDG‑linked budgeting strategy in the coming fiscal year.
