Crime Branch Takes Over IIT‑Bombay Suicide Probe After Parents Decline to Retrieve Body

A student of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay was found dead in a suspected suicide, and his parents declined to take possession of the body. Following this refusal, the Maharashtra Crime Branch stepped in to take over the investigation, superseding the local police who had initially been handling the case. The move aims to ensure a thorough forensic examination and maintain the chain of custody for the deceased. Authorities have ordered an autopsy and are collecting evidence from the campus premises. IIT Bombay has expressed its condolences to the family and is cooperating fully with the Crime Branch to expedite the inquiry.
