The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for a district-wide hartal in Idukki on Friday, protesting the ESA and recent orders issued by the district collector.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued a notice today demanding a full‑day hartal across Idukki district on Friday. The party said the strike is intended to pressure the state administration over the implementation of the ESA and directives issued by the district collector.

According to the CPM statement, the ESA refers to a recent environmental sanction that the party claims was granted without adequate public consultation. The collector’s orders, which are said to enforce the ESA, have sparked concerns among local residents and activists about potential ecological damage and loss of livelihood.

The party has warned that transport services, schools, shops and government offices are likely to remain closed during the hartal. It has also urged workers and traders to observe the strike, while appealing to law‑enforcement agencies to respect the right to peaceful protest.

State officials have not yet responded to the CPM’s demand, but the district administration is expected to monitor the situation closely to prevent any disruption of essential services.
