Court marriage triggers violent clash in Jhābua, Madhya Pradesh

In Khardubadi village of Jhābua, relatives of the bride’s family stormed the couple’s home after a court marriage, assaulting them and forcibly taking the newlywed woman, with the incident captured on CCTV.
Jhābua district’s Khardubadi village witnessed a violent episode on Tuesday when members of the bride’s paternal family entered the newlyweds’ residence following a court marriage. The intruders reportedly assaulted the couple and forcibly escorted the bride, Rianshi, out of the house. The entire episode was recorded by a closed‑circuit television camera installed at the premises.
Police investigations confirmed that the assault was triggered by the family’s opposition to the court marriage, which they claimed violated traditional customs. CCTV footage showed the accused breaking into the home, physically attacking the husband and dragging the bride away against her will.
The local police have filed a case against four identified suspects under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions for assault, kidnapping and criminal intimidation. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have appealed for additional witnesses to come forward.
