A statewide consumer protection campaign in Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in the issuance of 71 challans and 60 notices to alleged violators, authorities said.
The Consumer Protection Department of Jammu and Kashmir launched a coordinated drive across the union territory to curb unfair trade practices and non‑compliance with consumer rights. During the operation, officials recorded 71 challans for monetary penalties and served 60 formal notices to businesses and individuals found violating consumer protection statutes.
The enforcement action targeted a range of sectors, including retail, services and online marketplaces, where complaints of overcharging, sub‑standard goods and misleading advertisements have been on the rise. Inspectors conducted spot checks, verified consumer complaints and documented evidence before issuing the penalties.
Authorities emphasized that the drive is part of a broader effort to strengthen consumer confidence and ensure that sellers adhere to the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. They urged consumers to report grievances promptly and assured that further inspections will continue until compliance improves.
The department has not disclosed the identities of the entities penalised, citing ongoing investigations, but confirmed that the measures are intended to serve as a deterrent against future violations.
