The first elevated rotary in North India is under construction in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, marking a pioneering infrastructure project for the region.
Mandi, a town in Himachal Pradesh, has started building what will become North India's inaugural elevated rotary. The project, announced by the state Public Works Department, aims to streamline traffic flow at a busy junction that currently experiences frequent congestion.
Designed as a multi‑lane circular overpass, the structure will sit 7 metres above ground and span approximately 150 metres in diameter. Engineers say the elevated rotary will accommodate both local commuter traffic and heavy vehicles, reducing travel time and improving safety on adjoining roads.
Construction is slated to continue for the next 18 months, with an expected completion date in late 2027. Once operational, the rotary is projected to cut vehicle idling by up to 30 per cent, offering environmental benefits alongside smoother movement for residents and tourists alike.
