Congress workers and villagers block Shahdol-Amarkantak road in Anupur over pending demands

Congress cadres and local residents have staged a sit‑in at Lakhora, sealing the Shahdol‑Amarkantak highway, causing inconvenience to pilgrims, tourists and commuters.
In Anupur, Madhya Pradesh, a group of Congress party workers joined by villagers began a sit‑in protest at Lakhora, effectively blocking the Shahdol‑Amarkantak highway. The demonstration was launched to press for the settlement of long‑standing local demands that authorities have yet to address.
The road closure has disrupted traffic on the main route to Amarkantak, a major pilgrimage and tourist destination. Pilgrims heading to the sacred site, as well as tourists and local commuters, have reported significant delays and are being forced to seek alternative, longer routes.
Local police have been deployed to monitor the situation and ensure that the protest remains peaceful, while officials from the district administration are in talks with the demonstrators to resolve the pending issues. No arrests have been reported so far, and the blockade continues as negotiations proceed.
