The Indian National Congress has announced it will not contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council polls, despite a year of groundwork.
The Indian National Congress confirmed that it will not field candidates in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council (MLC) elections, even though the party had been gearing up for the contest for the past year. The decision was disclosed ahead of the schedule for the MLC polls, which are set to determine a portion of the state's upper house seats.
Party officials indicated that the withdrawal was a strategic choice, though no detailed rationale was provided in the public statement. The move marks a departure from the extensive preparation undertaken by the Congress unit in the state over the last twelve months.
Analysts note that Congress's absence from the MLC race could reshape the electoral dynamics in Uttar Pradesh, potentially consolidating the position of rival parties in the council's composition.
