Congress activists staged a one‑and‑half hour protest in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, demanding correction of alleged errors in the SIR and electoral roll, which escalated into a clash with police during a puppet‑burning at Hospital Chowk.

Congress workers gathered at Hospital Chowk in Damoh on Saturday to protest what they described as irregularities in the State Information Report (SIR) and the updated voter list. The demonstrators demanded that the alleged discrepancies be rectified before the upcoming elections.

The rally lasted approximately ninety minutes, during which participants raised slogans, waved party flags and set up a symbolic puppet for burning as a sign of dissent. The act of burning the effigy triggered a confrontation with police who had been deployed to maintain law and order.

Police and protesters engaged in a brief tug‑of‑war over the burning puppet, but the clash did not spread beyond the immediate area. Authorities reported that the situation was contained without any serious injuries, and the protest was eventually dispersed after the allotted time.

The incident underscores growing tensions in Madhya Pradesh over the accuracy of electoral rolls, a matter that political parties across the state are closely monitoring ahead of the next voting cycle.
