Congress Leaders Sachin Pilot, Partap Bajwa Detained in Punjab Protest Over Villager Death

Police in Punjab detained two senior Congress leaders, Sachin Pilot and Partap Bajwa, while they were participating in a demonstration demanding action over the recent death of a villager. The protest, organised by local residents, was directed against a political figure identified as Cheema, whom they hold responsible for the circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities said the leaders were held for violating public order provisions and for allegedly attempting to incite the crowd. Both Pilot and Bajwa were escorted to a nearby police station, where they were booked and later released on bail, according to official statements.

The protest continued after the detentions, with villagers chanting slogans and demanding a transparent inquiry. No injuries were reported, and the police confirmed that the situation remained under control while investigations into the villager's death are ongoing.
