Congress leader Pedada Parameswara Rao said that thousands of migrant workers from Srikakulam district were unable to cast their votes in the Special Identity Register (SIR). He added that over five lakh people from the district migrate temporarily for work.

Pedada Parameswara Rao, a Congress leader from Srikakulam, made the allegation during a press briefing, stating that many migrant workers from the district were excluded from the SIR voter list.

He said that the workers, who move out of Srikakulam for seasonal employment, were unable to vote because their names were missing from the Special Identity Register.

Rao noted that according to his estimates, more than five lakh people from Srikakulam migrate temporarily for work each year, highlighting the scale of the issue.

The claim has not been independently verified, and election officials have not yet commented on the allegation.

The issue raises concerns about the voting rights of migrant laborers in Andhra Pradesh.
