The Congress party has asked for the immediate release of four Adi activists detained over the Siang dam protests and called for a halt to all field activities related to the project.

Congress leaders have formally demanded that the four Adi community activists arrested during protests against the Siang dam be released without delay. The party also urged the state administration to suspend all field activities associated with the dam until the concerns of the tribal groups are addressed.

The activists were taken into custody after taking part in demonstrations that claim the dam threatens the traditional lands and livelihood of the Adi people. A Congress spokesperson described the arrests as unjust and called for an immediate judicial remedy.

In addition to the release demand, Congress pressed the Arunachal Pradesh government to pause construction, surveying and any on‑ground work on the Siang dam project. The party said a transparent dialogue with indigenous stakeholders is essential before any further progress.

The call comes amid growing scrutiny of the dam’s environmental and social impact, with several civil‑society groups echoing the demand for a moratorium until a comprehensive assessment is completed.
