The Indian National Congress has officially declared the damage caused by recent rains in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu & Kashmir as a natural calamity, urging authorities to mobilize relief efforts.

The Indian National Congress announced today that the extensive damage caused by heavy rains in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu & Kashmir constitutes a natural calamity. The party’s statement, released from its headquarters in New Delhi, calls on the state government to declare the area as a disaster zone and to activate emergency relief mechanisms.

Reports from local officials indicate that flooding has destroyed dozens of homes, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted transportation links across both districts. Several villages have been cut off from main roads, and agricultural fields have suffered significant losses.

The Jammu & Kashmir government has responded by pledging additional resources, including disaster management teams and relief supplies, to the affected areas. It has also urged residents to evacuate high-risk zones and has set up temporary shelters.

Congress leaders emphasized that declaring the event a natural calamity will unlock central government funds and expedite reconstruction efforts. They urged the public to cooperate with relief operations and to report any ongoing hazards to authorities.
