The Congress party has announced a statewide rally in Madhya Pradesh to oppose the nomination of Hardeep Singh Puri as a Rajya Sabha candidate, with leader Jitu Patwari signalling intensified protests over recent scandals and the government's three-year record.
Congress officials in Madhya Pradesh have declared that a coordinated, state‑wide demonstration will be organized to contest the party’s decision to field Hardeep Singh Puri for the Rajya Sabha. The announcement was made ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections and is intended to mobilise party workers across districts.
Jitu Patwari, a senior Congress leader, said the protest will not be limited to the candidacy issue. He warned that demonstrators would also raise grievances over the recent nursing scam, the controversy surrounding poisonous liquor, and what he described as the inadequate performance of the state government over its three‑year tenure.
Party cadres are being instructed to plan rallies, road‑blocks and public meetings in major towns, with the aim of drawing media attention and pressuring the ruling BJP ahead of the election calendar. No specific dates for the protests have been disclosed, but organizers indicated that actions could begin within the next week.
The Congress statement comes as opposition parties across the country seek to capitalize on perceived governance failures, positioning the upcoming Rajya Sabha nominations as a litmus test for the ruling coalition’s popularity in central India.
