Rain‑driven cold weather pushed Punjab’s temperature down to 2.3°C, prompting a two‑day alert for strong winds and further showers.

The Punjab Meteorological Department recorded a sudden drop in temperature on Monday, with the mercury touching just 2.3°C in several districts after a spell of rain. The cold snap has provided a brief respite from the intense heat that had persisted across the state for weeks.

Officials have issued a weather alert for the next 48 hours, warning of gusty winds and intermittent showers that could affect travel and outdoor activities. The alert covers all major districts, including Ludhiana, Amritsar and Patiala, where authorities have urged residents to wear warm clothing and secure loose objects that could be blown by the wind.

The department expects the temperature to gradually rise after the two‑day period, but cautioned that sudden fluctuations are possible. Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels and take necessary precautions, especially the elderly and those with respiratory conditions.
