The upgraded Nepalganj Road‑Bahraich railway section, now broad gauge and fully electrified, was opened by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, accompanied by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, formally opened the newly upgraded rail stretch linking Nepalganj Road with Bahraich on Thursday. The line has been converted to broad gauge and equipped with full electrification, replacing the earlier metre‑gauge track.
The conversion is expected to cut travel time between the two points and enable the operation of faster, higher‑capacity trains. Officials highlighted that the upgrade will improve regional connectivity, especially for communities near the Nepal border, and support the movement of goods and passengers.
Both leaders emphasized the project’s alignment with the government’s broader push to modernise India’s rail network and boost economic activity in the eastern part of the state. The inauguration ceremony included a short ride on a newly electrified train, showcasing the line’s readiness for commercial service.
The upgraded section forms part of a larger corridor that links several towns in Uttar Pradesh to the national railway grid, facilitating smoother logistics and encouraging tourism in the region.
