The chief minister affirmed that the sacrifices made by activists campaigning for statehood were instrumental in the formation of Uttarakhand.
The chief minister of Uttarakhand reiterated that the region’s emergence as a separate state was possible only because of the self‑less sacrifices of activists who fought for statehood. In a statement released to the media, he highlighted the decades‑long struggle that culminated in the creation of Uttarakhand in the year 2000.
He recalled that the movement, which began in the 1990s, saw numerous volunteers endure arrests, hardships and even loss of life while demanding a distinct administrative unit for the hilly districts of the former Uttar Pradesh. Their perseverance, he said, laid the foundation for the new state’s identity and development.
The chief minister’s remarks come as the government prepares to commemorate the anniversary of Uttarakhand’s formation, underscoring the enduring gratitude owed to those early martyrs and activists.
