Chief Minister Pema Khandu appealed for increased efforts to expand coffee cultivation across Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting its potential for farmer incomes and export.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, speaking at a press briefing in Itanagar, called for coordinated action to develop coffee cultivation throughout Arunachal Pradesh.
He pointed out that the state's hilly terrain and cool climate are ideal for high‑quality Arabica beans, and that expanding coffee could diversify agriculture and raise farmer earnings.
Khandu urged the state agriculture department, research institutes and private investors to supply seedlings, provide technical training and create market linkages, citing pilot projects already underway in districts such as West Siang and Upper Subansiri.
The chief minister announced that the government will explore subsidies and credit schemes to encourage smallholders and will work with central agencies to tap into national coffee promotion programmes.
The move is part of Arunachal's broader strategy to broaden its agrarian base beyond traditional crops like rice and millet and to capture a share of the growing domestic and global coffee market.
