Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has warned that student enrollment in Andhra Pradesh's government schools has dropped sharply, raising concerns over the state's education system.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy highlighted a steep fall in the number of children registering for government schools across Andhra Pradesh during a recent press briefing. He said the latest enrollment data, released by the state education department, shows a noticeable dip compared with previous years, prompting the administration to investigate underlying causes.

The CM stressed that declining enrollment could undermine the state's efforts to provide free, quality education to all sections of society. He urged parents to consider government schools, which offer subsidised textbooks, mid‑day meals and other support services, as a viable alternative to private institutions.

Education officials have been asked to submit a detailed report on the trend, identify any gaps in infrastructure or outreach, and propose corrective measures. The government plans to launch awareness campaigns and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to reverse the downward trajectory.

Stakeholders, including teachers' unions and parent groups, have been invited to discuss the issue in a series of consultations slated for the coming weeks. The administration hopes that collaborative action will restore confidence in the public school system and boost enrollment figures.

If the decline persists, the state may consider policy adjustments such as enhanced incentives for families, improved school facilities, and targeted recruitment drives to ensure that every child in Andhra Pradesh has access to affordable education.
