Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has alleged irregularities in the formation of local bodies’ boards after the recent elections, pointing to an IAS officer in his office, prompting a political row with the BJP.
After the recent local body elections in Rajasthan, the state administration began the process of constituting boards for municipal and panchayat institutions.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot publicly claimed that the board‑formation exercise was being tampered with, alleging that an IAS officer attached to the Chief Minister’s Office was influencing the appointments.
The allegation has heightened political tensions in the state. The ruling Indian National Congress has backed the chief minister’s stance, while the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has questioned the credibility of the claims and accused the government of politicising the board‑formation process.
Both parties have called for greater transparency, and senior officials are expected to review the matter, although no formal inquiry has been announced yet.
