Clash at Ujjain's Mahakal Temple as Kavadis Storm Nandi Hall, Attempt to Enter Sanctum

On Wednesday, a group of Kavadis forced their way into the Nandi Hall of Mahakal Temple in Ujjain and tried to reach the sanctum, leading to a physical altercation with temple staff.
Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh – On Wednesday, a contingent of Kavadis entered the Nandi Hall of the historic Mahakal Temple, a sacred precinct that leads to the inner sanctum (Garbhagriha). The devotees attempted to push past the security barricades in order to reach the sanctum, a move that temple authorities immediately blocked.
Temple staff and security personnel intervened, resulting in a brief but heated confrontation. Reports indicate that the Kavadis resorted to breaking the temporary barricades and hurling donation boxes in an effort to force their way forward. Several individuals on both sides sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.
Local police were called to the scene and restored order within a short period. The incident has been recorded as a disturbance at a place of worship, and authorities are reviewing the matter for possible legal action against those responsible for the unrest.
The Mahakal Temple, a major pilgrimage site attracting thousands of devotees daily, has not reported any damage to its main shrine. Temple management reiterated that security protocols will remain stringent to safeguard the sanctity of the site.
No arrests have been reported yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
