The Central Information Commission has begun a review of J&K government offices amid growing concerns over their compliance with the Right to Information Act.
The Central Information Commission (CIC) has announced a formal probe into several Jammu & Kashmir government offices following a surge in complaints about their handling of Right to Information (RTI) requests.
Under the RTI Act, public authorities are required to respond to information requests within a stipulated time frame. Critics argue that J&K offices have repeatedly delayed or denied responses, leading to frustration among citizens and civil society groups.
The CIC will review records, response times, and internal procedures of the implicated offices to assess compliance with the Act. The commission’s findings could result in recommendations for corrective action or penalties.
Officials from the state government have stated that they are cooperating with the CIC investigation and are working to improve transparency and responsiveness in line with national standards.
