A chlorine gas leak at a water treatment facility in Nagpur forced several people to seek medical attention, with local hospitals reporting multiple admissions.

A sudden release of chlorine gas was reported at the Nagpur municipal water treatment plant early on Tuesday, prompting an immediate evacuation of the surrounding area. Emergency services arrived within minutes and cordoned off the site to prevent further exposure.

Local hospitals confirmed that a number of residents and plant workers were admitted with symptoms ranging from coughing and throat irritation to more severe respiratory distress. Medical teams administered oxygen therapy and anti‑inflammatory treatment as precautionary measures.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation issued a public advisory urging people to avoid the vicinity until the leak is contained and air quality is restored. Officials from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board are conducting a technical assessment to determine the cause of the breach and to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Chlorine, widely used for water disinfection, can be hazardous in high concentrations. Authorities have pledged a thorough investigation and have assured the public that steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
