The Chhattisgarh government has amended its land development regulations to prohibit polluting industries from operating in residential areas, aiming to safeguard public health and the environment.
The state government of Chhattisgarh has issued an amendment to its land development rules, explicitly restricting the establishment of polluting industries within residential zones. The notification, released by the Urban Development Department, seeks to curb emissions that jeopardise air quality and resident wellbeing.
According to the revised guidelines, any industrial activity classified as a major source of air, water or noise pollution must be situated outside designated residential precincts. Existing facilities that violate the new criteria are required to relocate or adopt cleaner technologies within a stipulated timeframe.
State officials say the move responds to growing concerns over deteriorating environmental conditions in rapidly expanding towns and cities across the state. By tightening land‑use planning, the government aims to create healthier neighbourhoods while still supporting industrial growth in appropriate zones.
The amendment will be enforced as per the implementation schedule outlined in the official gazette, and the department has pledged regular monitoring to ensure compliance.
