An affidavit filed with the High Court shows that the state has sterilised 30,651 stray dogs as part of its animal control initiative.

The High Court affidavit filed by the Chhattisgarh government records that 30,651 stray dogs have been sterilised across the state as part of its ongoing animal welfare programme.

The operation, carried out by the Animal Welfare Department in collaboration with local NGOs, aimed to curb the growing stray dog population and reduce disease transmission.

Officials say the figures reflect the cumulative count since the programme began in 2019. The affidavit also outlines future plans to expand the initiative to more districts.

The state government has pledged additional funding to support veterinary services and public awareness campaigns.
