The Chhattisgarh government has launched its first export shipments of tilapia fish and related products, marking a new step for the state’s aquaculture sector.
The Department of Fisheries in Chhattisgarh announced that the state has begun shipping tilapia fillets, frozen fish and other value‑added products to overseas buyers. This marks the inaugural export batch of the species, which has been cultivated extensively in the state’s freshwater farms.
Tilapia farming has grown rapidly in recent years, supported by government schemes that provide seed, feed and technical assistance to fish farmers. By moving into the export market, the state aims to tap higher price points and diversify income sources for aquaculture producers.
State officials said the export initiative is expected to boost rural livelihoods, create new jobs in processing and logistics, and position Chhattisgarh as a competitive player in the global aquaculture trade.
