Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh highlighted the need for domestic production of critical minerals, calling for accelerated exploration and mining activities in the state.
Raipur, Aug 31 — The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh emphasized that India must become self‑sufficient in critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt and rare earths. In a statement, he urged the state government and private sector to intensify geological surveys and expedite mining projects to reduce reliance on imports.
He noted that the state's rich geological profile offers substantial untapped reserves, which, if developed responsibly, could support the nation’s clean‑energy transition and defence needs. The CM also called for a coordinated policy framework that balances investment incentives with environmental safeguards.
The appeal aligns with the central government's broader "Atmanirbhar Bharat" agenda, seeking to secure supply chains for strategic resources. Officials said a task force will be set up to identify priority zones and fast‑track clearances for eligible projects.
Stakeholders from industry and academia have been invited to submit proposals, with the expectation that the initiative will generate employment and boost the state's economy while contributing to national security.
