Bihar officials have announced the official calendar for the 2026 Chhath Puja, outlining the dates for Kharna, Nahay Khay and the concluding Argh ceremony as preparations intensify across the state.

Diwali decorations are being put up nationwide, but the primary focus in Bihar this season is the upcoming Chhath Puja, a four‑day river‑bank festival devoted to the Sun God. Local administration has now released the official timetable for the 2026 observance, confirming the sequence of rituals – Kharna, Nahay Khay, and the final Argh – along with their respective days.

The announced schedule aligns with traditional practice: the first two days involve fasting and offering prayers at home, followed by Kharna, the evening fast‑break with a communal meal. The third day, Nahay Khay, sees devotees taking a holy dip in the river and offering prayers at sunrise, while the concluding day culminates in the Argh ceremony at sunset.

With the dates now fixed, devotees across Bihar have begun setting up temporary ghats, cleaning riverbanks and arranging the customary offerings of fruits, sweets and thekua. Community groups and municipal bodies are coordinating to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the rituals, reflecting the deep cultural significance of the festival in the region.

Chhath remains one of the most widely observed religious events in the state, drawing millions of participants each year. The clear calendar this year is expected to facilitate orderly celebrations and allow worshippers to plan their observances without confusion.
