Char Dham pilgrimage halted until today because of severe weather

The Ministry of Tourism, in coordination with the Uttarakhand state government, announced that the Char Dham Yatra will remain suspended until today. The decision follows a sudden deterioration in weather across the high‑altitude routes that connect Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Heavy snowfall, landslides and reduced visibility have made the pilgrimage paths unsafe for both devotees and transport services.

Officials have urged pilgrims to postpone their travel plans and monitor official bulletins for updates. Rescue teams and local police have been placed on standby to assist any stranded travelers and to clear debris as soon as conditions improve.

The suspension is expected to be lifted once meteorological agencies confirm a stable weather window. Until then, temporary shelters and medical facilities will remain operational at the major base camps to support those already on the route.
