The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested CGST Superintendent Rajesh Kumar Gupta in Bhopal for taking a ₹2 lakh bribe, and recovered ₹72.5 lakh in cash during raids on his residences in Bhopal and Kanpur.
Bhopal police, acting on a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) operation, detained Rajesh Kumar Gupta, a superintendent in the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department, on suspicion of accepting a bribe worth two lakh rupees. The arrest took place at his Bhopal residence after intelligence inputs linked him to illicit payments.
Subsequent searches were carried out at Gupta’s homes in Bhopal and Kanpur. Investigators uncovered cash amounting to seventy-two lakh fifty thousand rupees, along with documents relating to his property holdings and financial transactions. The seized money was secured in sealed bags and handed over to the court for further processing.
Authorities said the case underscores ongoing efforts to curb corruption within tax administration. The CBI has opened a formal inquiry into the matter, and Gupta faces charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
