Centre sanctions Rs 5,000 crore housing assistance for families affected by Assam floods

The funding will be channelled through the Ministry of Rural Development and is expected to be released in phases to eligible beneficiaries in the most affected districts. The scheme aims to construct durable, flood‑resilient dwellings and to accelerate rehabilitation efforts that began after the monsoon deluge displaced thousands. Officials said the central assistance will complement state‑level relief measures and will be monitored by the National Disaster Management Authority to ensure transparency.
