The Union government has approved a Rs 5,000‑crore package to provide new homes for families displaced by recent floods in Assam.
New Delhi has cleared a Rs 5,000‑crore allocation to rebuild houses for households that lost their homes in the recent floods across Assam. The funding will be channelled through the Ministry of Rural Development and is expected to be released in phases to eligible beneficiaries in the most affected districts. The scheme aims to construct durable, flood‑resilient dwellings and to accelerate rehabilitation efforts that began after the monsoon deluge displaced thousands. Officials said the central assistance will complement state‑level relief measures and will be monitored by the National Disaster Management Authority to ensure transparency. The Assam Tribune reported the approval, noting that the central government’s move comes as part of a broader effort to mitigate the long‑term impact of climate‑induced disasters.
