Centre Launches Rs 175-Crore Mission to Promote Lakadong Turmeric Globally

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced a new initiative titled 'Mission Golden Spice', allocating 175 crore rupees to support the cultivation, processing and marketing of Lakadong turmeric. The scheme targets farmers in Meghalaya’s Lakadong region, providing financial assistance, training and infrastructure to enhance quality and export potential. Officials say the project will help position Lakadong turmeric as a premium spice in international markets. The launch event was held in the state capital, with representatives from the central government and local stakeholders in attendance.
