The central government has sanctioned ₹17.52 crore to boost tribal homestay tourism in five regions, but the funding does not cover Jammu & Kashmir or Telangana.
The Ministry of Tourism announced a financial package of ₹17.52 crore earmarked for developing tribal homestay tourism across five designated regions. The allocation aims to support local communities by improving infrastructure, training, and marketing initiatives. However, the announcement noted that Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana were not included in the current funding cycle.
Officials said the decision was based on the regions’ eligibility criteria and ongoing development plans. Stakeholders from the excluded states have expressed concerns that the omission could delay their tourism projects and affect local economies.
The government plans to review the allocation in the next fiscal review, with a possibility of extending support to the omitted states once their projects meet the required benchmarks.
