The Union government has cleared a Rs 475.41 crore package to modernise ten industrial training institutes in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting Union Minister Sunil Sharma to commend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on skill development.

The central government has approved a funding package worth Rs 475.41 crore for the upgradation of ten Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Jammu and Kashmir. The allocation is intended to bring the institutes in line with contemporary industry standards and improve the quality of vocational education in the region.

Under the scheme, each ITI will receive modern equipment, upgraded laboratories, and enhanced training infrastructure to better equip students with market‑relevant skills. Officials expect the improvements to boost employability for local youth and support the broader goal of expanding skilled manpower in the state.

Union Minister Sunil Sharma, speaking after the approval, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritising skill development and for the government's continued investment in the North‑Eastern and Himalayan regions. Sharma said the funding reflects a commitment to creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Implementation will be overseen by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the state’s vocational education department, with work slated to begin in the upcoming financial quarter.
