The Union Government has sanctioned the establishment of five dedicated hubs across the country to advance research and teaching of India's recognised classical languages, from Assamese to Pali.
The Ministry of Education announced that five new centres will be set up to coordinate scholarly work on India's classical languages. These hubs will receive central funding and will be located in regions with a strong tradition of the respective languages. Their mandate includes curriculum development, research grants, digitisation of manuscripts and training of teachers.
The approved languages cover the full spectrum of India's recognised classical tongues, with Assamese and Pali specifically mentioned as part of the initiative. Officials said the hubs will foster collaboration between universities, research institutes and cultural bodies.
The government expects the programme to enhance academic interest, preserve linguistic heritage and create more postgraduate opportunities in classical language studies nationwide.
