The Ministry of Labour has approved raising the monthly salary limit for mandatory EPFO contributions from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000, extending coverage to millions of middle‑class workers.

The Ministry of Labour has approved a final increase in the monthly salary ceiling for mandatory Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) contributions, raising it from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.

Under the EPFO scheme, employers and employees contribute a fixed percentage of the employee's salary up to the ceiling. The new limit will allow a larger segment of the workforce to be covered by the pension and other benefits.

The move is expected to extend social security to millions of middle‑class workers across the country, enhancing their retirement savings and providing a safety net for future financial security.

The decision follows a review of the EPFO guidelines and aligns with the government's broader objective of strengthening the social protection net for the working population.
