The Central Bureau of Investigation has secured the extradition of the alleged mastermind behind the Mahadev betting app, accused of siphoning ₹6,000 crore, from Oman.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully obtained the extradition of the individual identified as the kingpin of the Mahadev betting application case from the Sultanate of Oman. The suspect is alleged to have orchestrated a betting operation that amassed losses estimated at around ₹6,000 crore across India.
The Mahadev app, which operated as an online gambling platform, has been under intense scrutiny after regulators linked it to massive financial irregularities and illegal betting activities. Law enforcement agencies allege that the scheme attracted a large user base and facilitated the transfer of funds through complex channels, resulting in the colossal monetary loss.
CBI officials said the extradition underscores the agency’s commitment to pursuing high‑value financial crimes beyond national borders. The suspect will be handed over to Indian authorities for further investigation and prosecution under relevant anti‑money‑laundering and gambling statutes.
The case highlights growing concerns over unregulated betting applications and the challenges they pose to the country's financial integrity. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution while engaging with online gambling services and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
