The Central Bureau of Investigation detained two senior BSNL engineers in Bhopal after catching them accepting a Rs 1.5 lakh bribe, allegedly demanding Rs 4 lakh to settle pending bills of a Jabalpur firm.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody two senior engineers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Bhopal. The arrest was made after the officials were caught accepting a cash bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh.
According to the agency's statement, the engineers allegedly demanded a further Rs 4 lakh from a Jabalpur‑based firm to clear fourteen pending invoices. The money was purportedly sought to facilitate the settlement of the firm's outstanding dues.
The CBI has opened a formal investigation into the matter, citing violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The arrested officers are expected to appear before a special court in the coming days, and the case may lead to further scrutiny of procurement and billing practices within BSNL's regional operations.
