In Ara, Bhojpur, the Central Bureau of Investigation detained Head Post Office overseer Purushottam Kumar after he was caught accepting a 10,000‑rupee bribe. He discarded the money when CBI officers arrived.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made a surprise arrest in Ara, Bhojpur district, on Tuesday, detaining Purushottam Kumar, the head post office overseer, for taking a 10,000‑rupee bribe from a postal customer. When CBI officers arrived at the post office, Kumar was caught in the act and immediately threw the cash into a nearby bin.
CBI officials said the operation was part of a broader anti-corruption drive targeting officials in the postal service. The agency released a statement confirming that the arrest was based on evidence collected during a routine inspection.
Kumar, who has served as overseer for over a decade, is now under investigation for corruption and abuse of office. The CBI has requested a thorough probe into the post office’s financial records.
The incident has drawn attention to the need for stricter oversight in the postal department, with officials urging the government to strengthen internal controls and conduct regular audits.
