The Central Board of Film Certification has issued a new regulation that prevents producers and directors from making any alterations to a film once it has received its certification.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) announced a fresh rule that bars filmmakers from altering a movie after it has been granted a certification. The directive was released as part of the board's effort to streamline the certification process and avoid post‑certification disputes.

According to the notice, any changes – whether minor cuts or major re‑edits – must be submitted for re‑evaluation before the film can be released or re‑released. The board emphasized that the rule applies to all categories of certification, from U to A, and will be enforced uniformly across the industry.

Industry bodies, including the Film Producers' Association, have expressed concern that the measure could limit creative flexibility and increase costs for post‑production work. However, the CBFC argues that the policy will reduce last‑minute legal challenges and ensure that audiences see the version that was originally examined.

Legal experts note that the rule aligns with existing provisions under the Cinematograph Act, but its strict implementation may prompt filmmakers to seek clarification on permissible edits before certification is granted.
