The Central Authority for Quality Management has announced tighter controls on the registration of light commercial vehicles across the Delhi‑NCR region.
The Central Authority for Quality Management (CAQM) issued a directive tightening the criteria for registering new light‑goods vehicles in the Delhi‑NCR area. Under the new guidelines, prospective owners will face additional scrutiny before a registration can be approved, aiming to curb the rapid rise in such vehicles on the region’s roads.
The move is part of a broader effort to alleviate traffic congestion and improve air quality in the national capital region, where light commercial vehicles have contributed significantly to pollution levels.
Existing vehicles will continue to operate, but any fresh applications submitted after the announcement will be evaluated against the stricter standards. CAQM has asked state transport departments to enforce the rules uniformly and monitor compliance closely.
Authorities indicated that the revised framework will be reviewed periodically to ensure it aligns with environmental and urban mobility goals.
